Programming

The programming department screens and judges the 300+ submissions we receive each year and puts together a list of winners for the actual festival. The staff is also responsible for organizing the 48 Hour Film Festival in the fall, where we issue a prompt to filmmakers who have previously signed up and then screen the submissions we receive two days later. During the festival itself, the staff will organize housing for and welcome to campus visiting filmmakers. Looking for a staff of 20.

Publicity

The Publicity team coordinates the festival’s publicity, both in the form of soliciting film and screenplay submissions and in terms of promoting the actual festival. This includes publicizing the festival on campus and to local, national and international markets, contacting and maintaining relationships with the film departments of colleges and universities, and developing new ways of promoting and executing the film festival in order to reach new audiences. We also work with the Graphic Design team to create a cohesive image for the festival.

Screenplay Competition

The 11th annual IFF Screenplay Competition will judge both short and long form student written screenplays in separate competitions. A panel of qualified student judges will read each submission and select four semi-finalist screenplays according to an established set of guidelines. These criteria include concept, character development, dialogue, and story. Once selected, the finalist submissions will be sent to industry professionals (agents, producers, creative executives, writers, directors) who will choose the final winning screenplay, to be announced during the festival in April. The winners for each category will receive prizes and a reading of their work during the festival. Submissions will be accepted from September through February.

This year's categories are:

  1. Undergraduate Feature Screenplay
  2. Graduate Feature Screenplay
  3. Short Screenplay

Technical

The Technical department takes care of all technical aspects of the film festival, including the projection of student and feature films, sound set-up for panel discussions, and the behind-the-scenes work of the awards ceremony. This year, we plan to put together promotional videos for the festival, including website videos and/or trailers for the festival’s selection to be screened at the Awards Ceremony. We also intend to work with the Programming Staff to organize and archive past films and screenplays. This spring semester, we'll correspond with filmmakers to arrange the formatting of their films, compile accepted student films onto screener DVDs, and facilitate screenings and events to address any technical difficulties.
